Proof that San Pedro once had its own city hall. Buried for 100 years, uncovered during construction

Construction workers found a large granite block with "City Hall 1907" written on it at a North Gaffey residential development. According Anne Hansford of the San Pedro Bay Historical Society, the date is consistent with the original San Pedro City Hall which was built in 1907. "Its been buried for over 100 years and I'm amazed in what good condition most of it is."…

Fourth Sunday of Lent: 2 Chr 36:14-16, 19-23; Eph 2:4-10; Jn 3:14-21

One of my favorite stories is that of a famous scientist who after giving a lecture was asked what had most shaped his life.  He responded that he had started off as a misbehaving child that moved from one school to another because of his lack of control.  Finally his mother put him in a Catholic school.  On the first day of class he stepped in the room and was startled when he saw the…

Another merger for Sprouts Market

I am not thrilled about this announcement from Sprouts Farmers Market, about another merger. As much as we all want to believe this kind of move makes the shopping experience better, it OFTEN does not. If nothing else, many employees are often let go. Not good. This will likely effect our Sprouts (was Henry's) on Western Ave.…

San Pedro High Flag Football 2023 Shines In Inaugural Year

When a new high school sports program begins, normally it takes time to build a winner from the ground up.For San Pedro High flag football however, they didn't waste time in its inaugural season. Not wanting to settle for just being one of the 54 CIF-Los Angeles City Section schools to take in this brand-new environment, San Pedro immediately looked to hire a man well…See More
