Thanks for thinking Think Prime

Thanks to everyone who thinks Think Prime is their favorite San Pedro restaurant.

While it is a great restaurant, it is not in San Pedro. Like Green Hills Cemetary, Think Prime is in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Honorary Mayor of San Pedro candidate Joe Buscaino talks about fundraising and Dodgers.

I've known Joe Buscaino since we were both children. I remember photographing his childhood home every year for the Daily Breeze at Christmas time because his dad always went above and beyond with the lights and decorations. I remember celebrating with him in the yellow seats at Dodger Stadium during the 1988 World Series when Kirk Gibson hit a home run in the 9th…

April Gray Whales

I saw seven gray whales on Sunday.

It is widely believed that the gray whale migration in our area ends in late March or early April, but the truth is that grays pass by our shores through May and occasionally into June. Most local whale watching ceases after the first week of April because usually the numbers of migrating whales drop off, but also…

Humpin' Happy in San Pedro

New Goodwill Store Under Construction

There is a new Goodwill Store under construction on the top level of The Terraces, along Western Avenue, in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Notices on the door state that there will be job interviews beginning on April 19 and they will be conducted at other outlets.

I don't know when the store will open.

Yes, it's not in "San Pedro" but to many of us older Eastview residents, our hearts remain firmly loving San Pedro.

Pastor's Message: Fourth Sunday of Lent

In my first assignment as a priest I regularly visited an elderly man in his nineties, Jose Holguin. Jose insisted on playing a little jazz piano after I would give him communion. At his age he could not hit all of the proper keys on the piano, but you could still recognize the tune and understand that once this was a very good musician. One day, I was called to the hospital to anoint Jose before a serious operation. When I arrived he was being wheeled into the operating room. The…

Can Facebook and Twitter predict the winner of political campaigns?

Here in San Pedro, we are in the middle of two very popular election campaigns. One is for fun and serves as a fundraiser for local non-profits, where San Pedroans will choose an "Honorary Mayor," while the other is a more consequential congressional campaign, a race for the 36th Congressional District Seat in Congress.

As many know, there are five local citizens that are vying for the Honorary Mayor of San Pedro position, a bi-annual event sponsored by the… Continue

Omelette and Waffle Shop my breakfast stop in San Pedro

In LA when you see people waiting outside a restaurant it can mean a lot of different things.

Of course there's the smokers. They often make you think a place is happening, only to find out they are just loitering.

Then there are the traditions. Places like Titos in Culver City or Pinks on La Brea, eateries people go to because they grew up…
