As a San Pedro resident, this is a subject near and dear to the heart. POC, as it is, has GOT to go! I'm dating myself surely, but when I was in high school, POC was THE place to go for prom night, in the South Bay! My husband (new to the area) and I had been remiss in getting down there, since we moved back to the area. Hungering for a local seafood market, we wandered in there one afternoon and were stunned to find what a dump it had become!
From the outside, it looks like it's…

Ports O' Call is being re-developed. What about current tenants? Most will be allowed to stay until the end of 2014.

My family has a long history in San Pedro going back three generations, and was influential in creating the city as we now know it. Bringing new people to our town is part of what makes this place so unique. San Pedro is a vibrant and diverse community because it welcomes people from far and wide, whether visiting through the Port, or coming to live and be a part of the community.
I’m proud…

The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium was definitely THE place to be last night as locals and folks from all over the southland flocked to the beach in droves to witness the annual Grunion Run and take part in the Aquarium’s popular “Meet the Grunion” event. The program began at 9:00 pm with a short film about the Grunion and then everyone headed down to the beach to await the spectacle that would be carried in on the high tide. Families came armed with flashlights and fishermen of…

After 45 years in business at the same location on 25th St. and Western Ave. in San Pedro, Henry at Harbor Village Barbers wondered where all his business had gone. Down to one chair with a second barber coming in a couple of days a week, the shop's business was in a downward spiral.
This is a traditional manly man's barbershop. There are no stylists to be found…
