Report on Petroleum Tanks Including Rancho LPG in the Harbor Area

Several months ago my office coordinated a special meeting of the Public Safety Committee to discuss the safety of the Rancho LPG facility and similar petroleum storage and refinery facilities in my district.  I wanted to address community concerns about the perceived level of danger about having so many petroleum facilities in close proximity to our homes, neighbors, and families.

Celebrating my FIRST anniversary as your Councilman!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I stood with my family, raised my right hand, and took the oath of office, being sworn in as the new councilman for the 15th District. It has been challenging, rewarding, exhausting, frustrating, and incredibly fun all at the same time. Just like a roller coaster, there have been ups and downs, but there is no question, this has been the ride of my life. Not a day goes by where I do not reflect on how…

Epic Fourth of July 2012 in San Pedro!

It was my pleasure, representing the City of Los Angeles, to participate in the many amazing Fourth of July events in San Pedro. From the 26th annual flag raising at the Villa family home on 18th St. in San Pedro to the annual Korean Friendship Bell ringing to the commissioning of the Iowa and lastly the fireworks at Cabrillo Beach it was an epic day for me personally. For the past six years on the fourth, I worked the streets as an LAPD officer keeping the community safe from illegal…

Proof that San Pedro once had its own city hall. Buried for 100 years, uncovered during construction

Construction workers found a large granite block with "City Hall 1907" written on it at a North Gaffey residential development. According Anne Hansford of the San Pedro Bay Historical Society, the date is consistent with the original San Pedro City Hall which was built in 1907. "Its been buried for over 100 years and I'm amazed in what good condition most of it is."…
