We need a fully stocked craft store in San Pedro!

I'm going to keep "harping" at our community to get a bona fide arts & craft store in this town! Nothing against the little shop on 6th street, but since we have many artists and crafters in San Pedro, including members of Crafted, and San Pedro Crafters, we need something fully stocked with beads, clays, findings, art supplies, cake decorating, yarn, sewing supplies,…

Review of Ceramic Art by Regina Fernandez

Let me start by saying that I myself have worked with clay and ceramics for many years. I've done the pre-poured pieces that you can paint and fire in a little shop, bowls your create on a potter's wheel at a studio, and rolling out slabs or forming shapes with your bare hands in places such as Angel's Gate. I understand how much work it takes to create something in clay that shows your artistic side.

So I feel that I am qualified to review thet unbelievable work of Regina Fernandez,… Continue

Big news for parking at Crafted!

As Crafted's vendor Honey and Ollie just posted, Crafted will now be allowing FREE PARKING!

If you have one of the special parking permits issued recently, hang on to it - when Crafted has a special event where they STILL charge for parking, you will be able to get in FREE.

I think this is a good move by Crafted. Personally, I have thought that charging at Crafted was not in their best interest. I feel this should help, specially with the Holiday season upon us.

Rain or shine, the Craft Faire this Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church on Western, will be open for business. If necessary, we'll be in the gym and there should be signs pointing to it!!!

"Neighborhood Watchers!

Recently we have had a serious trend of Burglary for Motor Vehicles in the area of Bynner and Western. Unfortunately these are the kind of thefts where our Lock it or Lose it program is not as effective. In the course of one night thieves targeted five separate vehicles and stole their Catalytic Converters off the bottom of the vehicles. Targeted vehicles are Toyotas; in this most recent rash of thefts the vehicles targeted were 1 Toyota…

Buy local, buy hand-made, for the Holidays!

Here's revised text of a great little picture posted on FaceBook, promoting the idea of how to help our local business people this holiday season.

*******************

HERE'S AN IDEA: Let's buy Christmas (and other Holiday) presents from small local businesses, and self-employed people.

For example, from your neighbor who sells online, the local crafts person who makes jewelry, the girl who is a stunning florist.

The local gift store, your friend who runs a shop, the…

Changes coming to Crafted at the Port of L.A.

Most of us have been very supportive of Crafted, and do want to see it thrive.

Many new craft vendors have come on board and more sign up often.

But I am also aware of a turnover coming starting at the end of November. Actually, many changes have already started.  Some of our favorites will be leaving and sadly, before the holiday shopping is in full swing. I'm hearing the guess of close…

Posts and Comments from Neighborhood Watch pages

There are many Neighborhood Watch pages for San Pedro on Facebook, thanks in the most part to Councilman Joe Buscaino.

I am taking an interest in all of this, so I want to share a "summary" of sorts of what problems I see reported, that we need to watch for!

One of the most frequent problems in San Pedro: people attempting to get in, ask for something, selling something, borrowing something, looking around, and we've seen so many variations of this.  We have to start…

My first experience with volunteering - for candidate George McGovern

This weekend, former senator George McGovern died at 92. I really didn't follow his politics years ago, or even recently. But I volunteered for his campaign way, way back in the 70's, as a kid just in my last year of high school.

We did phone soliciting, late into the night, and it was my first experience drinking coffee also!

The phones we used were not cordless, and certainly not cell phones. We had great big binders full of old-fashioned green & white printout lists.…

What do skulls mean to you?

A former co:worker friend just asked me that, when she saw a pair of earrings I had just made.

For me, skulls never really meant all that much, until I learned about Dios de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

I think of my grandmother all the time. The idea of a special day to honor our deceased relatives therefore allows me to pay a special homage to her. She also made me believe in some "weird" possibilities. If ANYONE could visit me from the dead, it was my Mimi. I dream…
