WHITE POINT LANDSLIDE - Final Report, June 18, 2012

 

 

On Monday, June 18, 2012, City Engineer Gary Lee Moore, and geotechnical experts from the consulting firm Shannon & Wilson presented the findings contained in an 800-page report on the White Point Landslide – the November 20th 2011 geologic event that destroyed a portion of Paseo Del Mar, adjacent to the White Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro. The report details the factors that contributed to the slide, presents recommendations to improve the stability of the site and prevent future ground movement, and presents several long-term repair options for Paseo Del Mar.

We have no guarantees more slippage will not occur.

Graded roadway with a dip - however - WAIT at least 2 more years to "do" anything - we tend to be an impatient society and in this case - patience is - IMHO - essential.

 

Proceed with caution any more irrigation in the nature preserve.

 

Leave the nature preserve ALONE.

Reroute the road through the preserve for reasons of cost, long term durability and to best serve the community.

Which of these repair options would you choose?

Graded roadway with a dip - $4 to $8 million.

Reroute the roadway into the nature preserve - $4 to $8 million

Restore - $42 to $49 million

Bridge - $57 to  $62 million

Abandon road and install cul de sacs - $2 to $5 million.
