Five members of the San Pedro High football team were chosen to be among the best of the best in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section for 2012 as the All-City team was announced Wednesday.

Senior running back Darrell Santiago, the Marine League Co-Offensive Player Of The Year, and senior kicker Christian Gonzalez were both selected to the All-City first team offense. Santiago rushed for 1,304 yards and 16 touchdowns on 193 carries to spearhead an offense that averaged 31 points a game and gained 3,964 yards of total offense (2,956 rushing yards).

Santiago has made the All-City team in all three years of his high school career at San Pedro.

Gonzalez made 43-of-44 PAT kicks and was 7-of-10 on field goals, including a record-tying 50-yard field goal in a 48-6 Marine League victory over Banning of Wilmington on October 26. Gonzalez also caught a 67-yard touchdown pass in a 35-0 Marine League win over Gardena on October 5.

Making the All-City second team on offense was senior offensive lineman Joey Dimercurio, while making the All-City second team defense was senior linebacker Joseph Stanovich and junior safety Pete Palacios. Dimercurio was the starting center of a veteran offensive line unit. Stanovich was third on the team with 59 tackles (30 solo), while also getting an interception and recovering two fumbles.

Palacios played everywhere on both sides. He ran for only 61 yards on eight carries with a touchdown, while also catching 10 passes for 178 yards and another touchdown. Defensively, Palacios was second on the team with 62 tackles (36 solo), while leading the team with three interceptions and three pass break-ups.

Santiago, Gonzalez, Palacios, Stanovich and Dimercurio were also on the All-Marine League first team at their respected positions.
