POLAHS Girls Soccer Ends St. Anthony's Unbeaten Streak

LONG BEACH - Seemed like 19 days of wait didn't faze the Port Of Los Angeles High girls soccer team.

Playing its first game since the San Pedro Pirate Cup Tournament on January 3, the Polar Bears took on a red-hot St. Anthony of Long Beach team that was unbeaten in 13 consecutive games, winning four in a row after a 3-3 tie with Firebaugh of Lynwood on January 7. The Saints had also scored 17 goals in their last two games leading up to this intersectional encounter Tuesday.

Falling behind early in the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute, the Polar Bears would storm back thanks to junior midfielder Tiffany Torres and freshman forward Anna Vidovich on the way to a solid 2-1 comeback victory over St. Anthony to end their undefeated streak in this intersectional encounter at Clark Field.

Torres would assist on Vidovich's tying goal in the 60th minute with a throw-in, then score the game-winning goal off a breakaway shot that hit the left corner of the net perfectly in the 69th minute for POLA (6-3-4 overall) to notch their third consecutive victory over the Saints (13-2-1). Freshman goalie Emily Haugen saved five shots on goal for POLA in the first half, while sophomore goalie Daisy Garcia notched seven saves in the second half.

Just 364 days ago to this day, POLA defeated St. Anthony, 1-0 also at Clark Field last season.

POLA will open Crosstown League play today against visiting Harbor Teacher Prep of Wilmington at Daniels Field.
