SPHS Football Grounds Arleta, Advances To LACS Semifinals

Consider this latest test for San Pedro High football passed... even without a need to complete a single pass.

It was a 'flashback Friday' type of night for top-seeded San Pedro, as they used several different runners in their vintage 'Pound-N-Ground' attack, and four different players would score a touchdown to power the Pirates to a 42-13 victory over eighth-seeded Arleta, in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division I quarterfinals.

The Mustangs scored on the second play of the game on a 66-yard touchdown run by junior fullback Felix Vega, and San Pedro (11-1) was reeling, but the Pirates would score 42 unanswered points to set up a semifinal rematch with Marine League foe fourth-seeded Carson, who eliminated No.5 Crenshaw of Los Angeles, 23-7 in their quarterfinal meeting.

San Pedro would tie the score at 7-7 on senior running back Chris Alvidrez's first of three touchdowns on the night, a seven-yard run with 1:46 remaining in the first quarter, then Alvidrez busted free for a short one-yard touchdown run two minutes into the second quarter to put the Pirates ahead to stay. Senior running back Christian Serna's three-yard touchdown run, followed by four-yard touchdown run by Alvidrez would increase San Pedro's lead to 28-7 by halftime.

The defense would do the rest, as junior linebacker Noe Lopez got an interception, while junior defensive end Mike Spinosa came through with two sacks, and senior defensive lineman Luis Lona added a sack.

Sophomore backup quarterback Nick Zabatta's 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, followed by a 18-yard touchdown run by junior running back Brian Halsey in the fourth quarter gave the Pirates a 42-7 lead with 8:31 remaining, and the running clock was put in place, sealing up San Pedro's victory.

Although Vega ran for a game-high 124 yards on 13 carries for Arleta (10-2), the East Valley League champions looked almost listless the majority of the night on offense, as senior quarterback Jonathan Porter was flustered into a 7-for-20, 81-yard passing night, once misfiring on nine consecutive passes. Porter did throw a 29-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Ivan Vasquez on the game's final play against San Pedro's second string defense.

Despite junior quarterback Jacob Miller not able to complete any of his three pass attempts, it hardly mattered against Arleta.

Serna ran for 90 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown for San Pedro. Alvidrez ran for 54 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, giving him 21 rushing scores this season. Halsey only had two carries, but he did run for 52 yards and a touchdown. Junior running back Joseph Santiago ran for 60 yards on three carries, junior WR/RB/DB Christian Michaels ran for 52 yards on six carries, and Zabatta ran for 32 yards on four carries and a touchdown.

In all, San Pedro ran for 332 yards, which accounted for their entire offense.

Yes indeed, it was 'Flashback Friday'.

San Pedro didn't come out of the game against Arleta unscathed, as junior WR/DB Antonio Frazier Jr. suffered a fractured right tibia in the first quarter and is probably out for the remainder of the season.

The Jewish Community Weaponized Hip Hop Against Black People

Is it not yet painfully obvious that the so-called European Jewish community has profited off of the destruction of African American families all across the world? Are we really going to take the stance that conscious Hip Hop wouldn't have sold records? Whole fan bases have been ousted over the special interests of the Jewish community. Lyor Cohen, a so-called Jewish…See More
