Linked In has many job postings this week!

If you're seeking employment, and you're not already on LinkedIn, www.linkedin.com , I suggest you create a profile right away. I just checked in and there were nearly a dozen jobs posted within my groups/connections, and many were in the Torrance/Santa Monica/Los Angeles area.

At the least, you can follow groups, find out what employment/staffing companies are available, and job/skill trends.

Door to door solicitors again -

Residents - I know most of you know this, but some of our friends and relatives need to be reminded!  There is a slow return of door to door magazine sales and contractors pitching their "wares".

I just spoke with a neighbor Jo who had lengthy conversations with both. A young girl, (once again saying what they all do, that she lives "up the street")  just sold another neighbor Em, a bogus magazine subscription that "goes to a veteran". By the time the other neighbor Jo tipped her off,…

MORE Scams to look out for - involving packages & internet contact

It seems there are endless sources of Scams in L.A, and probably all over the U.S. - this information was just received from our Neighborhood Watch Lead Officer. While most of us know better than to accept/cash something unsolicited, we also know family members and friends who are not always quite as up on these things:

"One of your neighbors recently received a Fed-Ex, overnight envelope (very official in appearance).  When she opened the envelope she found a solicitation from a…

Unexpected E-mail from Amazon.com? Phony calls from Microsoft?

Several of my friends have been experiencing this recently, so even if you already have heard about it, I thought I'd share.

"Someone out there is phishing for Amazon passwords. If you get an unsolicited email from Amazon with a link to reset your password, IGNORE IT."

"A guy claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support called us and said they are receiving error…

Natural Remedies - ongoing research

As homeowners, and even as renters, we all need to find solutions that are effective, but safe for our families, specially children, and our pets. I am always looking for "green" solutions and will be writing about my findings.

Termites – It might not have residual properties, but amazingly we tried vinegar (mixed with soap & water) on termites that we found after cutting a board from our garage. It killed them almost instantly, and the orange based termite spray from the hardware…

Neighborhood Watch WORKS! Possible home theft thwarted

Recently, we had an "exciting" afternoon in South Shores, and I want to share information we received regarding this event from our SLO Officer Wight:

"I just wanted to give you all a quick update.  During the day on 06/06/2012 a group of four male Hispanics were seen distributing flyers in South Shores.  And because our Neighborhood Watchers are attentive and proactive, a number of you called it in.  The information that I received is a number of Officers responded to the area,…

San Pedro Needs a Craft Store! (updated 5/16/2012)

I hope someday, someone who wants to start a business in downtown San Pedro, does a craft store. Sure we have Crafted coming soon, but we need a craft store! It doesn't have to be a chain store like JoAnn's or a Michael's. And I know we have (still?) a hobby store, but we gals & the kids want a craft store! We have SO many empty storefronts on 6th street lately, for example.

Or maybe someone at Crafted at the Port of L.A. can set this…
