The 2015 All-San Pedro News Pilot Prep Boys Soccer Team

The 2014-2015 seasons for San Pedro, Port Of Los Angeles and Mary Star Of The Sea High boys soccer all ended with a winning or even record, with the Pirates coming out as the best of the bunch, nearly winning the Marine League title and defeating POLA for the second year in a row.

Senior midfielder Jose (Cele) Lopez was one of the two main cogs for coach Peter Hazdovac's team along with senior midfielder Cesar Villatoro.

Lopez led the Pirates with eight goals as he helped pace San Pedro to a 9-8-5 overall record, also going 5-1-4 in the Marine League, placing second despite never losing to eventual league champion Banning of Wilmington. The one loss to Washington, along with a pair of ties against Narbonne of Harbor City, a tie with Washington and a tie with Banning eventually cost the Pirates the league crown.

Despite that, Lopez gets our nod for the News Pilot Boys Soccer Player Of The Year, following up former San Pedro boys soccer star Daniel Powell, who won the award last season. Senior goalie Kevin Renderos is our other award winner for Goalie Of The Year.

POLA went 10-10-3 overall, even placing third in the Crosstown League with a 4-5-3 mark as junior forwards Ian Martinez and Giovanny Salazar made for a pretty lethal scoring combination. Mary Star went 9-8-2 overall, 4-5-1 in the Camino Real League, but that one tie, a 2-2 draw with La Salle of Pasadena on January 30, eventually prevented the Stars and coach Chris Guastella a spot in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.
