Thanks to the generosity of the Meid and MacFarlane Foundation, every spring the College brings to our campus a visiting lecturer. Our guest speaker visits classes and meets with students, faculty and staff for two days. The program begins with a lecture open to the public.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Diana Sinton is our Meid Visiting Mentor for spring 2013. Dr. Sinton is the Director of Spatial Curriculum and Research at the University of Redlands. She leads a campus-wide initiative to integrate spatial perspectives into numerous academic disciplines and teaches courses related to GIS and mapping.
Dr. Sinton’s lecture will focus on her work in spatial thinking, including her published GIS-based research on wind thrown trees, oil wells, polka-playing radio stations, and invasive plants.
WHAT IS GIS?
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) combines layers of information to reveal relationships, patterns and trends. This information can be analyzed to understand complex situations like economic trends, natural disasters, ocean levels, military action, or even population shifts.
This is a free event.
