The American Cetacean Society, Orange County Chapter presents wildlife photographer Bernardo Alps who will show some of his marine life photos from the local area and from around the world and share hints on where and how effectively photograph wild animals.
Bernardo Alps is wildlife photographer and writer based in San Pedro, CA. The very first photo he made when receiving a camera for his tenth birthday was of a cowbird in his native Brazil. Since then he has traveled all over the world in search of subjects, but Bernardo considers himself extremely lucky to live in Southern California where the Pacific Ocean, the Channel Islands, the coast, the San Gabriel and Santa Monica Mountains and the deserts are his backyard. While he loves all of nature, his special passion is reserved for marine mammals and sea birds. He regularly serves as naturalist on natural history trips and contributes his photos and expertise to many scientific studies.
Bernardo will share some tips and helpful hints about how to create stunning wildlife photos, even without expensive equipment. He will also share some of favorite local spots to experience wildlife, some of which may surprise you. And he will share many of his breathtaking images and experiences. Among them are: orcas showing off their kill to whale watchers in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, a blue whale that passed less than a yard under his feet in the Gulf of the Saint Lawrence, the friendly gray whales of San Ignacio Lagoon, Guadalupe fur seals on Islas San Benito, and lunge feeding humpback whales in the Santa Barbara Channel.
