Curmudgeon Corner - The Great Sony Hoax

My thoughts for December 28, 2014

Where did it all go so fast; 2014 that is?  It was just January, now it’s the end of the year.  Many events have taken place.  We have lost a lot of good people, and football has been as exciting as ever.  Just today my beloved Seattle Seahawks beat the Saint Louis Rams in an exciting game.  Did my ole heart a lot of good.

Some memorable events for the year were the loss of Malaysia Flight 370, enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing,…

Curmudgeon Corner - Standing for the Right Thing

For December 21, 2014

When I was young and foolish many, many years ago I got a hand full of Cuban cigars.  Those of you familiar with Cuban cigars, therefore know, I got a hold of one of those big babies.  Yep, thought I was hot stuff.  Pulled out a blow torch and lit the darn thing. Showed everyone what it was to be a man. Fifteen minutes later, I was totally sick to my stomach, puking whatever it was I ate for dinner.

So, you see, if I don’t seem excited about the…

Curmudgeon Corner -Holiday Season

For December 14, 2014

Hey, that time of year is here again.  A time of year when we put Ferguson, EITs, and choke holds aside and extend goodwill (goodwill: a kind, helpful, or friendly feeling or attitude.) to everyone.   Yep, I’m talking about the Christmas Season.  Oops, I mean the Holiday Season.  By saying “Holiday Season” I’m showing goodwill towards everyone.  It’s politically correct to say “Holiday Season” and we all know how politically correct our political leaders…

Curmudgeon Corner - Who Won Japan or us?

My Rooney thoughts for December 7, 2014

Today was the day that exactly seventy-three years ago a great president said, “It was a day that will live in infamy.”   Today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the day that the Land of The Rising Sun inadvertently awoke a Sleeping Tiger.  The Japanese viewed the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a necessary pre-empty strike necessary to ensure a victory for their country.  The return on their investment was as contradictory as their country’s…

Curmudgeon Corner - Lessons of Ferguson

My Rooney thoughts for November 30, 2014

The lessons of Ferguson are many, both for white folks and black folks.  Actually, there are many lessons for all Americans if they just will listen and understand.  For me, the most apparent lesson is there is still a divided American, black people who are oppressed (or perceive being oppressed) and white people who don’t understand that they are the oppressors.

One of the white behaviors that contributes to black people feeling…

Curmudgeon Corner - Our Country Needs You!

My Rooney thoughts for November 23, 2014

What a week this has been for America.  Of course, there is the weather in which Buffalo took a beating.  Ferguson, Missouri is braced for an announcement by a grand jury, but the biggest news is the President finally took action on immigration.  Frankly, I think he waited too long but then he had good reason to wait.

How many times did he ask congress to move on immigration?  How much pleading did he do to get that body to govern, to…

Curmudgeon Corner - An Education Expert

My Rooney thoughts for November 16, 2014

Just got done reading Ester Cepeda’s (Washington Post columnist) article proclaiming teachers need to be better educated.  Better educated?  What teachers might she talking about?  Teaching is a profession and just like all professions, you have those individuals who take their training serious and those that don’t have a clue.  When I was in college there were students who were serious minded students to the point of making one nauseated. …

Curmudgeon Corner - Simply Put ...

My Rooney thoughts for November 11, 2014

Today, one hundred years ago, at the exact time of 1100hrs the Great War came to an end. It was thought to be a war that would end all wars.  It was a war in which men learned to use machines of destruction, to kill almost a whole generation of young men. It was only thought to be the war that would end all wars.  Simply put, it did not.

I think of that war from time to time.  I can’t begin to contemplate the ugliness of that war.  What…

Curmudgeon Corner - Another School Shooting

My Rooney thoughts for October 26, 2014

Well, it’s happened again, here in the Northwest.  In Marysville, Washington at a local high school a distraught and misguided young man walked into the school cafeteria with a .40 caliber handgun and killed the girl who had refused his amorous advances.  Additionally, he wounded two others students before turning the gun on himself.  It’s a tragedy that’s being played out way too often, not only in Washington but all over the…

Curmudgeon Corner - The Politics of Ebola

Curmudgeon Corner

My Rooney thoughts for October 19, 2014

It never fails!  Some weeks ago when the press began reporting the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, our government went to great lengths to assure the American people Ebola won’t reach our shores.  WRONG!

Suddenly, Ebola was present in America, in Dallas, Texas.  (Apparently Ebola didn’t affect the Dallas Cowboys who went to Seattle and taught the Northwest who still is the toughest state in the Union.)  And, our…

San Pedro High Flag Football 2023 Shines In Inaugural Year

When a new high school sports program begins, normally it takes time to build a winner from the ground up.For San Pedro High flag football however, they didn't waste time in its inaugural season. Not wanting to settle for just being one of the 54 CIF-Los Angeles City Section schools to take in this brand-new environment, San Pedro immediately looked to hire a man well…See More
