Even though the 2011 season did not end with their sixth CIF-Los Angeles City Section championship, the San Pedro High football team far exceeded all expectations and made believers out of many critics, finishing with a solid 12-1 record after losing 24-19 to Marine League rival Carson in the Division I semifinals. Along the way, San Pedro finished the regular season without a loss, won their first Marine League championship in five years, and became the first Pirate team to shutout both Carson and Banning of Wilmington in the same season.
