Before Wednesday, May 25, 2011, Port Of Los Angeles High School, a small charter school in San Pedro, California, had never won a CIF-Los Angeles City Section title... but after Wednesday, May 30, 2012, the Polar Bears' softball team would provide them with their first two sports championships. In this remarkable run, head coach Melissa Bugarin-Espinoza would guide POLA to a combined record of 39-14 during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, and a pair of Crosstown League titles before defeating Northridge Academy for the 2011 City Section Small Schools Division title at Birmingham High of Lake Balboa, then would follow it up in 2012 with a solid win over rival Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy of Wilmington at UCLA for a repeat crown. Here's the final out of both victories and small review of both championship post-game celebrations in this special video.
