Late in the third quarter, San Pedro High football only led 15-13 against Taft of Woodland Hills in the 1996 CIF-Los Angeles City Section football championship game. Melvin Yarbrough threw a prayer that was tipped by Taft's Keith Johnson, then answered when Tim O'Donnell caught the ball while in the air, for a backbreaking 43-yard touchdown. The Pirates would go on to win, 22-20 and claim the first of two straight City Section titles.
