Gallery Neuartig in San Pedro invites you an evening of incredible imagery captured by Surfrider CEO Jim Moriarty using his iPhone! We are showing 125 8x8 Giclee prints (stretched canvas) which will be auctioned during the opening.
This show benefits the Surfrider Foundation.
Jim Moriarty is the CEO of the Surfrider Foundation and an innovative leader in the environmental and action sports communities. From a skateboarding punk-rock kid to an architect of the early days of e-commerce, Moriarty is obsessed with building companies and organizations around notable and world-altering ideas. Jim’s job as CEO of the Surfrider Foundation melds his passions for environmental awareness, action sports and big ideas. His vision is clear: Create a global movement of coastal environmental awareness and action. Jim resides in Solana Beach, and when he’s not working, he can be found riding waves at his home break in Cardiff Reef.
"Surfrider is coming off a strategic plan that netted 150 coastal victories in the past five years. We’re shifting gears to keep this momentum going but put an even larger focus on connecting people to our coastal needs," said Moriarty. " In one word, we’re focused on “engagement.” This spans from low-friction, easy engagement all the way to leadership training."
At Surfrider we're about using the best tools possible to maximize our mission of coastal protection. We want people pushing out pictures, videos and podcasts... anything that helps connect people to our vision of healthy coasts. Part of this process is having them use tools like iphones as much as possible and explore those tools capabilities. All these photos were all taken on my iphone. In some cases I've also used phone apps to tweak / mashup the imagery. I think of these photos as something in-between realtime loose sketches and an ongoing photographic journal.
Each of Moriarty's pieces will be auctioned in a silent bidding format starting at $100. Bidding will be done in increments of $25. Sales benefit the Surfrider Foundation. The highest bidder for each piece at the end of the evening will take that piece home immediately.
