Event Description

Join us for this fun community event where ingenuity, enthusiasm, paper, water, and wind will combine to raise money for a wonderful cause.

After six successful years in downtown Los Angeles, the Psomas Paper Yacht Challenge is coming to the Port of Los Angeles.  The yacht challenge is a contest where contestants construct paper boats and race their boats in competitive heats and against the clock.  The top three finishers win trophies, but the real winner is the charity that the event sponsors.  Since 2008, Psomas has raised raised over $50,000.00 for various charities.

This year, Psomas and POLA are teaming up.  There are two beneficiaries for the inaugural event at the Port, the San Pedro & Peninsula and Wilmington YMCA and the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s (LAMI) TopSail Youth Program.

The event features entertainment, food and beverages, and a silent auction.  There will be certificates awarded for best boat design and best individual and group costume.

The race will be held on September 12, 2013, at the Fanfare Fountain located on Harbor Boulevard near the Vincent Thomas Bridge.  Registration begins at 4:30 pm with the first boat race starting at 5:30 pm.
