School's Out - Let's Sail!
On Tuesday, April 15th, Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) is offering youth 9-17 the opportunity to sail on LA's Official Tall Ships. Youth will learn how to pull the ship's line, raise the sails and steer the ship. They will also meet a host of wildlife as they sail the local waters to learn about marine habitats and maritime activities in America's busiest port!
LAMI's twin brigantines - the Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson - were named after sail training pioneers who sailed around the world with young people. These magnificent 110-foot vessels are the only twin brigantines in the world!
LAMI has been providing educational experiences at sea for underserved youth since 1992. Their public sailing events are offered as a community service to introduce kids of all ages to their TopSail Youth Program, the LA Harbor, and the art of sailing.
Donations above the ticket price are encouraged and appreciated.
