Graduated from University of Phoenix in December 2012 with a master of science in psychology. Appreciation of diversity was emphasized through courses such as diversity and cultural factors in psychology (psy 450) and multicultural psychology (psy 535).
We worked on learning teams with other students with diverse cultural backgrounds and worldviews. The teams were given assignments to complete as a group. To work together effectively we had to appreciate and understand each others differences. Failure to do so led to unnecessary conflict and wasted time. My appreciation of diversity helped me work successfully in this environment.
My experience playing professional women’s basketball in Europe contributed to my understanding of various cultures in the countries where I played. These countries include Italy, Germany, Holland, Korea, and Sweden.
My nonprofit organization, The Legends: Kids First, Incorporated helps children and young people. Our clients come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some have disabilities such as autism. My appreciation of diversity helps me to adjust our programs to meet the unique needs of each client.
These experiences have provided the foundation of my understanding and appreciation of diversity.
Thank you for taking time out to review my materials.
