San Pedro Needs a Craft Store! (updated 5/16/2012)

I hope someday, someone who wants to start a business in downtown San Pedro, does a craft store. Sure we have Crafted coming soon, but we need a craft store! It doesn't have to be a chain store like JoAnn's or a Michael's. And I know we have (still?) a hobby store, but we gals & the kids want a craft store! We have SO many empty storefronts on 6th street lately, for example.Or maybe someone at Crafted at the Port of L.A. can set this up??? MANY of us, including the Facebook group San Pedro…See More

DWP Upgrading Water Meters

In case you didn't know DWP is upgrading the water meters. I just spoke with a DWP employee out on our street. They will be switching to a unit that can be read "electronically" or remotely. This will result in greater efficiency. It will only mean a reduction in staff by attrition. So if you noticed a slight "hesitation" by the water coming out of your pipes, today or recently, it is likely due to this upgrade, as they of course have to turn off your water for just a few minutes.See More

Is the food your'e buying safe? Watch out for "off" brands -

According to a Yahoo article, many foods are not exactly what we think, and store brands or "off" brands are more likely to have fraud than trusted brands. One reason is the source of those low-priced or store brands, often from foreign countries. Remember the toxic non-food additives we heard about in baby formula from China? Read the article and decide for yourself."Currently, imports account for 85% of seafood, 39% of fruits and nuts and 18% of vegetables. That leads to great variety, but…See More

Crafted At The Port of Los Angeles - report update 5/24/2012

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 10:29am 0 Comments

May 2012 -  Fellow San Pedro Crafter, Erinn of Heart & Soul Designs, recently attended a meeting by the Crafted folks, held at their "sister" location, the Bergamont Station in Santa Monica.

I had asked Erinn several questions, and she was able to answer most of them, and provide quite a bit of info from that meeting.

"As for lighting, they just installed all the new lighting fixtures and upgraded the natural lighting in the ceiling...ambiance would be that of a furniture…

Curmudgeon Corner

My Rooney Thoughts for May 27, 2012 There are times when we must send our children to a place where we can’t protect them, a place of chaos, disorder and uncertainty.  It’s a place of upheaval, bewilderment and death.  It’s a place where our politicians like to say “they gave their last full measure of devotion.”  To a few are given medals to honor their deeds, others just get a simple white stone cross or Star of David. These brave men and women have fought all over the world—they did not…See More
