(LONG BEACH --- Jan. 20) --- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering About Boating Safely, a one-day class on Feb. 27 (Saturday) at the Long Beach Fire Dept. Station 8 in Belmont Shores.
"(The class will help to) keep your friends and family safe, and make your time on the water more pleasurable," said Michael Bozarth, USCG Aux. instructor who's set to teach the course related to powerboats, sail boats and personal watercraft.
The eight-hour class will cover boating jargon and laws, on-water emergencies, navigation, skiing, river boating, trailering, storing, hunting aboard your boat and protecting it.
It's free, but the textbook costs $30. It'll take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 5373 E. 2nd St., Long Beach 90802. There will be a one-hour break for lunch. There is street parking only.
Many insurance companies give discounts to those who've successfully finished this class. A certificate will be presented to students who pass the short test following the class.
