Awesome Talent Is All You Can Say About Austin Freitas

There are a lot of basketball-volleyball thoroughbreds out there in the high school level, but not many who are successful at it. Consider San Pedro High senior Austin Freitas as one of the successful ones.

Currently playing on a boys basketball team riding a 5-0 start, Freitas is a three-year varsity veteran who is one amazing talent with a 4.0 GPA, an accomplished young man who handles his business both in the classroom and on the court for the Pirates.

Oh yeah, he also made the All-Marine League first team for boys volleyball as the table-setter for the defending Marine League champions.

In basketball, Freitas has already helped the Pirates win the Belmont Zone Of Choice Tournament recently, boasting two great games, scoring 21 points against South East, and 17 points against Venice in a pair of runaway victories,,, and he didn't even start either of those games considering he's the consummate 'sixth-man'. Freitas is also a pest defensively to opposing guards in coach John Bobich's full-court pressure defensive schemes.

Before his senior season, Freitas won the Scholar Athlete Award as a freshman for the freshman-sophomore team with a 4.0 GPA, then as a sophomore, he was the JV MVP and was moved up to varsity by the start of the Marine League competition.

Volleyball is likely Freitas' most accomplished sport.

Freitas has made the All-Marine League team in each of his first two seasons, leading the Pirates last season with 535 assists and is a deadly serving wizard with 59 aces. On occassion, Freitas will stun you with a kill here and there, as his incredible leaping ability at the net led him to 30 kills and 37 blocks, while also contributing with keeping rallies alive with 95 digs.

Overall, Freitas accumulated two all-tournament selections at Birmingham High of Lake Balboa (JV) and Venice (varsity), while also being named the MVP of the San Pedro Tournament as well last season.

And if that's not enough... Freitas is also an accomplished beach volleyball player.

In the very first tournament he competed in, Freitas took first place along with his partner Noah Mitre, also placing third in the junior Manhattan Beach Open 18-and-under division. Freitas also placed second in a beach volleyball tournament with former basketball and volleyball teammate Kenny Potter, who of course was a dynamic football player for San Pedro High.

Literally, the sky is the limit for what Austin Freitas can truly accomplish despite what he's already achieved. Great things are in store for an awesome young talent.
