My Rooney thoughts for November 23, 2014

What a week this has been for America.  Of course, there is the weather in which Buffalo took a beating.  Ferguson, Missouri is braced for an announcement by a grand jury, but the biggest news is the President finally took action on immigration.  Frankly, I think he waited too long but then he had good reason to wait.

How many times did he ask congress to move on immigration?  How much pleading did he do to get that body to govern, to move the country forward?  How many times did he declare he was willing to work with the Republicans?  He waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited.

A bi-partisan bill passed the Senate some time ago, then, has been cornered in the House for no apparent reason other than the House republicans don’t want the President to get anything accomplished. And, now that he has acted they’re calling his executive order the actions of an emperor.  Some are saying he’s a dictator.  Give me a break. The fact is the President gave John Boehner and his party plenty of time to move forward on immigration.  The Republicans chose to do nothing, except to bad-mouth the President.  Rush Limbaugh never did give his Republican Party the go ahead on immigration.

Of course John Boehner, Limbaugh, and other Tea Party congress people did declare that they are defending the Constitution which is being endangered by executive branch of government. While they are threatening impeachment, I hardly believe even they are dumb enough to shut down the government, unless, of course, Limbaugh so commands them to do so.

Rush Limbaugh seems to be the real leader of the Republican Party (he’s a real Tea Party darling) and his sole order to the ultra-conservative right is to stop the President at any cost. Maybe you people on the Right should think about running Limbaugh for an office.  Or, better, yet, maybe you people who have been duly elected by the citizens of the country get down to the business of governing the country.  Do what the President has asked, pass an immigration bill.

Our system of government works best when the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, and Judicial Branch all are functioning as designed.  For the last six years the Legislative Branch hasn’t been able do much.  Come on, gentlemen, quit drinking what’s ever in that tea of yours and get to governing.  Our country needs you!
