In just one year of varsity soccer, San Pedro High girls soccer senior forward Julia Fuentes would leave her mark.
Guiding the Pirates to their ninth consecutive Marine League championship, Fuentes would be recognized by a panel of all six Marine League coaches as the consensus 2014 Marine League Player Of The Year.
San Pedro (10-10-1 overall) would take a youthful team under the wing of first-year head coach Elisa De La Pena-Nagle and somehow fight off a tough pre-league schedule along with their own Pirate Cup Tournament to begin their 2013-2014 campaign, and somehow claim their ninth straight league crown even after their 95-game league unbeaten streak was snapped at the end of the year, and Fuentes played a big part in the title run.
Fuentes led the Pirates with 10 goals and also contributed with 3 assists. coming up with three goals that either tied a game up, or put San Pedro ahead, her most notable of these coming in a 3-1 win over Gardena on January 27 at Gardena High, as both her goals tied and won the close road game in a nine-minute span late in the second half.
Fuentes was joined on the All-Marine League team by eight of her teammates.
Senior forward Jenny Rivera and the sophomore trio of sweeper Gabriella Ma, midfielder Rianni Gonzales and forward Ashley Lopez made the All-Marine League first team, while sophomore goalie Taylor Miller (2014 News Pilot Goalie Of The Year), junior defender Kirsten Bauman, and the freshman duo of midfielders Maddie Villela and Sydney Engel made second team all-league.
San Pedro clinched the league title on February 12 with a 2-1 victory over Narbonne of Harbor City.
