The Mary Star High softball team normally doesn't take to the long ball often, but it came in good use for their Camino Real League game at St. Monica of Santa Monica.
A senior quartet of infielders Rikki Legaspi-Valdez, Mariah Marquez and Cassie Demers along with catcher Amber Nunez, all went deep by hitting the Stars' first four home runs this season to guide them to an 8-3 victory over the Mariners that keeps Mary Star (10-7 overall, 7-2 league) in contention for a third straight league title.
Nunez also tripled and had 3 RBIs to power the Stars, who got another 10-strikeout effort from sophomore pitcher Marina Vitalich. Legaspi-Valdez added a double to go along with her lead-off solo home run that opened off the game.
Mary Star begins the El Segundo Tournament on Saturday against Agoura at Recreation Park.
