In their first year together playing high school softball, the Vitalich sister combination of Marina and Amanda continues to make their mark on Mary Star High School sports history with every passing year.
The George Mason-bound Marina and her fabulous sister Amanda were both named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division VI team. For Marina, the San Pedro News Pilot Prep Softball Player Of The Year, this is her third consecutive All-CIF selection, and for Amanda, she was only one out of 11 freshmen to be named All-CIF in all seven division in the Southern Section.
Marina's junior year was nothing short of remarkable as a pitcher, as went 15-7 with a 0.64 ERA, striking out 321 batters in 151 innings, issuing only 21 walks. Her strikeout total was good for third in ALL of California, and surpassed former San Pedro softball pitching great Taylor Petty's single-season record of 291 in 2006.
Marina had 116 of her strikeouts in nine Camino Real League games, six of them were shutout victories. Marina also had a dangerous bat, hitting .407 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Marina even had five stolen bases.
Amanda was without a doubt, the most productive freshman hitter in San Pedro Prep Softball, as she hit over .400 at the plate with five home runs, and if it weren't for a couple of sparkling defensive plays in two prior games on fields without fences, she could have had two more. Amanda was also a rock defensively at shortstop, as she only committed one error in 36 chances.
The amazing Vitalich sister combo had a great 2013-2014 year overall, as they made All-Camino Real League in both softball and basketball.
