The Mary Star High softball team would begin defense of their Camino Real League championship by knocking off one of their main threats.
Behind another solid effort from sophomore pitcher Marina Vitalich, the Stars were able to defeat visiting St. Monica of Santa Monica, 5-0 at the San Pedro Softball Complex. Vitalich would pitch a masterful shutout with a career-high of 16 strikeouts to power the Stars (2-3), who've had a slow start to the season.
Amber Nunez went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI, Lexie Geich went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI and Christina Padilla went 1-for-3 with an RBI to power the Stars, who will next visit St. Bernard of Playa Del Rey next Thursday.
