Mary Star High girls basketball continued its renaissance season with a solid 48-25 victory over visiting Malibu Monday that tripled last season's win total.
With this latest victory, the Stars are now 6-7 overall.
Freshman guard Angela Pisano continues her frantic scoring pace, leading Mary Star with a game-high 22 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Junior guard Marina Vitalich added 7 points, six assists and four steals, and senior forward Brina Garcia came of the bench with four points and seven rebounds. Mary Star led from wire-to-wire and held a 27-12 halftime lead before Pisano got hot with 10 third quarter points to pull away.
"I took my time and didn't rush my shot," Pisano said of her strong third quarter. "I also stepped up my game on defense which caused turnovers. It was a team effort that got it done and I'm very proud of every one of my teammates."
The Stars will continue their season with their Camino Real League opener at St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs on January 14.
