Brand-new, custom made cleats... still the same old Nikki Bonilla.
The Port Of Los Angeles High girls soccer star has been on fire lately, and against visiting Rancho Dominguez Prep of Long Beach in a Crosstown League game, Bonilla shows no signs of putting her own flames out.
Apparently, the opponents of the Polar Bears can't figure out how to put it out themselves.
Bonilla scored four goals to power POLA to a 8-0 victory over the Lobos at Daniels Field to further establish themselves as the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Crosstown League champion, and remain on course for another shot at the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Small Schools Division championship. In the three league victories for the Polar Bears, Bonilla has scored an astonishing 10 goals.
Not to be outdone was sophomore D/MF Isabela Van Antwerp, as she scored two goals herself for POLA (9-5-1 overall, 3-0 league), who took their lumps in the San Pedro Pirate Cup Tournament earlier this month where the Polar Bears went 0-4 against bigger schools, but it has all the better toughened them up for the long haul.
Junior forward Samantha Foxworthy had a goal and an assist, while senior midfielder Alyssa Bristol assisted on two goals and scored one for herself to power the Polar Bears, who will travel to St. Anthony Of Long Beach on Tuesday for an intersectional game, and resume Crosstown League play on Wednesday against Harbor Teacher Prep of Wilmington at Daniels Field.
Goalies Daisy Garcia and Nicole Sierra combined for the shutout with one save each.
