The CIF-Los Angeles City Section announced their All-City softball selections for Division I on Thursday, and three of San Pedro Prep Softball's finest were chosen.
The Port Of Los Angeles High duo of Eastern Michigan-bound senior pitcher Nicolle Miranda and senior 2B/C Savana Ramirez, along with San Pedro High senior shortstop Taylor Richter were all selected. Miranda and Richter were first team All-City Division I selections, while Ramirez was a second team selection.
Miranda paced POLA to a 31-5 record this season, reaching the CIF-LACS Division I semifinals, where the Polar Bears lost 8-6 to eventual champion Chatsworth. Miranda graduates as the all-time greatest pitcher in school history, finishing the 2015 season with a 17-3 record, 1.85 ERA, 186 strikeouts in 125 innings pitched, 5 shutouts, 34 walks and 33 earned runs (42 runs total). Miranda remained deadly hitting wise as well batting .451 with 12 runs scored, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs, 41 hits, 8 doubles & a triple.
This is Miranda's fourth All-City selection after being named the City Section Pitcher Of The Year each of the past three seasons (Division III in 2012 & 2013, Division I in 2014).
POLA was strong in tournaments, claiming the Torrance National Tournament Silver Division championship while finishing as the runner-up in both the El Segundo & Las Vegas, Nevada Spring Jamboree Tournaments.
Richter earns her second straight All-City selection after being named All-City second team last year, as she hit an insane .710 (59 hits in 83 at bats) with three home runs and 19 RBIs for the Pirates, who finished third in the Marine League with a 21-12 record and a stunning 5-3 first round playoff loss to Kennedy of Granada Hills on May 19.
The four-year veteran and three-time All-Marine League first team selection, who had a .930 fielding percentage playing shortstop, third base and center field for San Pedro, hit a game-winning walk-off single to defeat Peninsula of Rolling Hills Estates, 9-8 in the second doubleheader game on April 8 and hit a towering go-ahead home run in a 5-1 victory over Whittier on March 21 in the Whittier Tournament semifinals.
San Pedro repeated as Whittier Tournament champions with a 6-4 victory over Mayfair of Lakewood on March 28 and Richter made the all-tournament team.
As for Ramirez, she hit .429 with 38 runs, 3 home runs, 23 RBIs, 5 doubles, a new school record and team-leading 48 hits and was 7-for-7 in stolen bases for POLA. Ramirez hit a towering 240-foot game-tying home run in the semifinal loss to Chatsworth, starting many games at second base when her normal position is at catcher. Ramirez, who had a .927 fielding percentage, is now a three-time All-City selection.
Carson senior catcher Hillary Edior, bound for Arizona, is the City Division I Player Of The Year, while Chatsworth junior pitcher Kyla Gendler is Pitcher Of The Year.
