The San Pedro High boys basketball team makes their first big step up in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section as for the first time in a long time, they've reached the Division I playoffs.

Three years after winning the Division II title in 2010, the Pirates (15-11 overall, 5-7 in the Marine League), will travel to face fourth-seeded Palisades on Thursday at 7pm in the Division I playoffs. San Pedro will be paced by senior guards Elijah Gaines, Austin Freitas and Michael Garcia, junior forward Quincy Thomas, and junior guards James Fish and Isaac Stell.

Westchester, El Camino Real of Woodland Hills and Crenshaw of Los Angeles were seeded in the top three, while defending Division I champion Taft of Woodland Hills was seeded eighth. Marine League champion Washington Prep of Los Angeles was seeded ninth and will face Taft in the opening round.

Also, Port Of Los Angeles High boys basketball made the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division IV/V (Small Schools) playoffs. The Polar Bears (11-11 overall, 5-5 in the Crosstown League) were seeded No.11 and will host No.22 Sherman Oaks CES Magnet on Tuesday, 7pm at Peck Park in a wild card game for the right to travel and face sixth-seeded Douglass in a first round playoff game on Thursday, also at 7pm.
