To kick off Teacher Appreciation Week, the Helpful Honda Guys in Blue recognized San Pedro High School teacher, Mr. David Crowley, for his amazing efforts as an educator with much-needed donations and a surprise performance by his students. Mr. Crowley has been a teacher at San Pedro High School for the past 12 years, and has been instrumental in the success of the Gay Straight Alliance Program (G.S.A.) and bringing singing back to campus by starting the Glee Club. Known by those closest to him to “save lives,” Crowley’s work with the LGBT community at San Pedro High has been nothing short of transformative, making the campus safer for all students and brought together kids of all orientations to work with and support each other. He is also San Pedro High’s first ever social media teacher, advises the Koreh LA Reading Program, manages the AVID Overnight Retreat and improves the majority of his students’ CSTs test scores from one to three levels on average.
Upon Mr. Crowley’s entrance into the school’s drama room for a faux Monday morning meeting, the Glee Club welcomed him with a cheerful rendition of “Thank You For the Music,” followed by touching speeches from his colleagues including English teacher Mr. Tony Saavedra and Principal Jeanette Stevens, friends, and current students. The Helpful Guys in Blue honored and thanked Mr. Crowley for all of his helpful efforts towards the success of his students with a donation of school supplies that included a iMac computer, iPads, a digital camera, and of course, a Karaoke Machine.
Celebrating teachers is one of many ways the Helpful Guys in Blue are giving back to those who are making a difference as part of the HELPFUL Campaign. SoCal Honda and the Helpful Guys in Blue will continue to honor teachers across Southern California in support of Teacher Appreciation Week.
