Make no bones about it... Port Of Los Angeles High girls soccer wants another shot at a CIF-Los Angeles City Section championship.
The Polar Bears would serve notice from the start with a dominant first half before cruising to a 5-0 victory over visiting USC-Mast in the first round of the Division III playoffs at Daniels Field. Four goals in the first half would be all POLA (16-5-1 overall) would need before dismantling the Trojans (6-4-3).
Sophomore forward Melissa Rodriguez would score the first and last goal of the half for POLA, with goals by senior forward Nikki Bonilla (her 30th of the season) and junior midfielder Samantha Foxworthy sandwiched in between Rodriguez's goals. Sophomore midfielder/defender Tiffany Torres would score the Polar Bears' lone goal in the second half, while freshman goalie Daisy Garcia stopped two shots for the shutout.
POLA will take on the winner of No.6 Mendez-No.11 Bernstein on Tuesday in the quarterfinals at Daniels Field.
