With the sky literally falling in Russia last week the conspiracy theorists are at it again. The Russians think the meteor was some new weapons system being tested by the Americans and many nuts just think it's the beginning of the end of the earth.

While the Earth may not be dying anytime soon in the physical or social sense, the recent cosmic events got me thinking about our lives in general here on this planet. Our parents thought Chubby Checker's new dance craze The Twist, rock 'n' roll and Beatle Bob haircuts would surely be the end of civilization, but I'm starting to wonder about our current state of affairs here on the planet we live. The Pope has even resigned for God's sake.

Here are some real reasons why we may just be "on the eve of destruction." (Forgive me Bob Dylan.)

Zombies, you laugh. Is Armageddon at hand. Are the "end times" really here? The biblical references are certainly there and believed by many. But, in the end, it will be nature that takes down the earth. Fire and brimstone yes, but by natural causes that are way beyond our's and Al Gore's control.

So, pack your bag and be ready. Hold out hope for one big bang. Don't leave us here dying out little by little over decades or centuries. "Let's live for today" was sung by one of my favorite groups the "Grass Roots" back in 1967. Seems like the Vietnam era all over again when many of us did just "live for today."

LET'S LIVE FOR TODAY
Grass Roots

When I think of all the worries people seem to find
And how they're in a hurry to complicate their mind
By chasing after money and dreams that can't come true
I'm glad that we are different, we've better things to do
May others plan their future, I'm busy lovin' you (1-2-3-4)
Sha-la-la-la-la-la,
live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Live for today
We were never meant to worry the way that people do
And I don't need to hurry as long as I'm with you
We'll take it nice and easy and use my simple plan
You'll be my lovin' woman, I'll be your lovin' man
We'll take the most from living, have pleasure while we can (2-3-4)
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Live for today
Baby, I need to feel you inside of me
I got to feel you deep inside of me
Baby please come close to me
I got to have you now, please, please, please
Gimme some-a lovin', gimme some-a lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin', gimme some-a lovin'
Baby gimme some-a lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin, I need all your lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin, I need all your lovin'
Give me some love, now
I need all your lovin'
Sha la la la la la
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today.
