(LONG BEACH --- July 24) --- A class to teach you where you are and how to get to where you're going while boating is scheduled to be taught starting Friday (Aug. 15) at the historic Long Beach Fire Station No. 8 in Belmont Shore.
"This is a great course to backup your GPS (global positioning satellite) navigation with the tried and true plotting skills," said Bob Vatz, a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructor who's set to teach the eight-week class.
Classes will be held on Fridays from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. The fire station is located at 5365 E. 2nd St. 90803.
Instruction is free, but the cost for the textbook is $55. Students must also have dividers and plotters, which can be bought at a marine store or from the USCGAUX.
For further information, call Vatz at (562) 493-3479; or email him at bobnflip@aol.com.
