City of Los Angeles changing street lights to LED's saving sixty percent in energy costs

One hundred and forty thousand street lights in the City of Los Angeles are currently being switched from low-pressure sodium to LED lights. Over eight thousand lights have already been upgraded in the 15th District.

COUNCILMAN BUSCAINO INTRODUCES MOTION FOR SKATEBOARDING SAFETY

At the request of the LAPD, I have introduced a motion that instructs the City Attorney to work with the Department of Transportation, along with the Los Angeles Police Department as necessary, to draft an ordinance amending the Los Angeles Municipal Code so that the unsafe skateboarding activity referred to as "bombing" is prohibited on San Pedro streets.

Ballerina Misty Copeland visits San Pedro High School

It was my pleasure to be on hand to welcome Misty Copeland, soloist at the American Ballet Theater in New York, back to San Pedro High School on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012.

She spoke to the students about her experiences and I was honored to present her with a Certificate on behalf of the City.

Encore Entertainers present Annie at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro

I had the opportunity to attend the the Presentation of Encore Entertainers presentation of Annie at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro on Friday. The musical runs from Feb 2-5, and I recommend you check it out. I got to go back stage right before the performance and meet many of the child actors. They are all fantastic.

My condolences to the Steve Saggiani Family

I am greatly saddened to learn of the death of San Pedro resident Steve Saggiani, killed tragically Thursday evening, while performing his duties as a longshoreman at the Port of Long Beach. As a person who has family and many friends in the ILWU, I would like to express my deepest personal sympathies and condolences to the Saggiani family and to all his brothers and sisters of the ILWU.

WHITE POINT LANDSLIDE - JANUARY 2012 REPORT

 

Los Angeles City Engineer, Gary Lee Moore, briefed me Friday morning on the status of the White Point Landslide.
