Do you have community issues... well maybe we can help...

We all have issues regarding our quality of life in the community. The “Community Issues Committee’s” mission statement is to “serve as the gateway, by focusing on quality of life issues that come from the community stakeholders/neighbors and communicate to best resolve and find solutions to advice the City of Los Angeles and the governing board of the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council.

This committee’s goals are to be a “On stop shop” for stakeholders/neighbors and board members to address issues and provide solutions. We listen to the community’s needs by creating and maintaining transparence. To provide assistance and resolutions on issues so that those issues are best solve or enhanced when projects are involved with the community vision.

In the past few months our committee is working hard to improve the quality of life on Capitol drive. From traffic safety to adding handicap access ramps to Harbor Highlands park no issue is a challenge for your neighborhood council. We are working with the City of Los Angeles to fix the major pot holes on Capitol Dr. near the Target driveway. This will not be an inexpensive or easy repair because of the natural ground water. But we are committed to solve this issue as we do with other matters.

Our committee meets with Los Angeles Police Department Traffic division officers to provide information on areas of major unsafe traffic locations. But we all must remember to slow down. It only takes one second for a person to accidentally be stuck by a car.

Finally, over the past few years our council has worked with City of Los Angeles leaders and staff to solve the shopping cart problem. An ordinance is being drafted to provide a better accountability for retail owners that provide shopping carts to customers. Shopping carts have become a nuisance and blight around our neighborhoods. We continue to work with the local retail business so that they take a proactive approach on collection of their carts. If you see a abandon shopping cart please call 800-252-4613.

If you have a quality of life issues and feel you can help us, please join us at this sub-committee meeting. We meet the 4th Wednesday of month at 5 pm, San Pedro City Hall building. Please email me anytime to see how we can help you, our neighbors. johnmmavar@aol.com
