José Rafael Martinez
Born June 8, 1961 in Mexico City to a very brave Spanish father José Martinez Sr. A "Bracero" (The Bracero Program named for the Spanish term bracero, "strong-arm" was a series of laws and diplomatic agreements between the United States and Mexico that ended in 1964.) His mother a mentally, spiritually strong, very loving and intelligent noble Mexican, Ana Luisa Martinez. Better known to friends as "Joe Martinez" is the eldest of four brothers. Joe was paralyzed from the neck down because of a severe spinal cord injury during the surfing accident that dramatically changed his life in his hometown of San Pedro California, on August 23, 1977
