Everything you need to know about safe boating is scheduled to be taught in a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary class starting Thursday (July 10) at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Los Alamitos.
"Too many people take for granted many factors involved and overestimate their skill, often resulting in unplanned adventures of a terrifying nature," said USCG Aux. instructor Doug Conwell, who's scheduled to teach the course.
The Boating Safety and Seamanship classes will run for 11 weeks on Thursdays from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. The instruction is free, but the books and materials cost $40.
Certificates will be awarded to students who pass the final exam, and some insurance companies offer discounts on their policies for boaters who successfully complete an approved class like this one.
The church is located at 11600 Los Alamitos Blvd., Los Alamitos 90720.
