DiLeva, Garcia Lead All-League Picks For Mary Star Soccer

The Mary Star High boys and girls soccer team reaped the postseason benefits after both teams won their respective league championships.

Senior goalie Nick DiLeva, who posted seven shutouts in Camino Real League play, and 11 shutouts in general for the Stars, was named the league's Most Valuable Goalkeeper as Mary Star enjoyed a spectacular 17-4-1 season, going 8-2 as the Camino Real League champion and advancing to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs, where it lost 6-1 to Santiago of Garden Grove, the Division runner-up.

Making first team All-CRL for coach Chris Guastella's club are DiLeva, sophomore forward Victor Garnier, junior midfielder Xavier Martinez, senior defender Jose Lara, senior D/MF Jarod Alves, and juniors Ervin Rodas-Lima and Fernando Franco.

Junior Jaime Casiano and seniors Jacob Jensen and Raul Gonzalez were second team All-CRL selections.

Also, the girls soccer team under coach Shain Rossi once again overcame a sluggish start to wind up with their second straight Santa Fe League title, finishing 11-8 overall and 7-1 in league play. Junior goalie Taylor Garcia, who battled through a painful knee injury, was named the league's Most Valuable Goalkeeper.

Garcia also paced the first team All-SFL selections which also honored freshman midfielder Rose Amalfitano, junior midfielder Kaylee Rucker, senior forward Karina Amezcua, and junior defenders Yesenia Tahuite and Gabriella Ferrandino. Second team All-SFL selections are senior defender Alyssa DiMassa, freshman midfielder Bernice Casillas, sophomore forward Yicell Cortez and senior midfielder Giovanna Rios.
