The renovation of the structure housing the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro was celebrated Thursday, September 29 with traditional Korean music and ceremonial ringing.
The event was attended by Yeon-Sung Shin, the consul general of Korea, Ricardo Hung from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office, Judith Kieffer, Executive Director of the Los AngelesRecreation and Parks Department, representatives from the Los Angeles Parks Foundation and the Korean Friendship Bell Preservation Committee and Doane Liu, former Chief of Staff to Janice Hahn.
The Korean Friendship Bell, located in Angels Gate Park at 3601 Gaffey St. in San Pedro, is a gift that was bestowed on the United States from the Republic of Korea in 1978. For more than 30 years, it has been a historical landmark at the park that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and San Pedro Harbor.
