More postseason praise has been bestowed upon the dynamic battery of Mary Star High softball sophomore pitcher Marina Vitalich and senior catcher Amber Nunez, as they were named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 6 team.
For Vitalich, the News Pilot Pitcher Of The Year, it was her second straight season being named to an All-CIF team, following up last year's All-CIF Division 5 honor. Nunez, a transfer from Bishop Montgomery of Torrance, completely reinvigorated the catcher's position for the Stars to make up for the graduation of previous catcher Emily Demers with her energetic personality and hard-nosed toughness behind the plate.
Vitalich and Nunez's collaboration and partnership, combined with timely hits when it mattered most, propelled the Stars to their third straight Camino Real League championship and their first appearance in a CIF-Southern Section final when they reached the Division 6 championship against eventual champion Bell-Jeff of Burbank.
Nunez was also an All-San Pedro News Pilot Prep Softball First Team selection.
