CARSON - It was a game Port Of Los Angeles High girls soccer was in control from the beginning, but then had it suddenly slip from their fingers, at least not in outright fashion.
California Academy of Math and Science was able to score in the 74th minute to forge a 3-3 tie with the visiting Polar Bears at Cal State Dominguez Hills in an intersectional game. Senior midfielder Samantha Foxworthy would score the game's first two goals in the 10th and 19th minutes of a first half that saw POLA (1-0-1) grab a 3-1 first half lead.
Junior midfielder Isabela Van Antwerp scored in the 28th minute for the Polar Bears before CAMS (0-0-2) scored again in the 38th minute which made the score 3-2 in POLA's favor by halftime. Goalies Nicole Sierra and Emily Haugen combined for four saves, while junior midfielder Tiffany Torres and junior forward Melissa Rodriguez both assisted on the two Foxworthy goals.
POLA will stay in town Wednesday, but will next face host Mary Star in another intersectional game.
