Chalk up another victory for Port Of Los Angeles High softball in their three-peat dreams.
The top-seeded Polar Bears routed visiting South Region No.9 of South Gate, 15-0 in five innings of this CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division III quarterfinal at Bloch Field in San Pedro, and they did it by imposing their will at the plate by clubbing six - that's right - six home runs.
Sophomore pitcher Nicolle Miranda belted two home runs and drove in 4 RBIs for the Polar Bears (26-8 overall), who also got home runs from senior catcher Brianna Grayson, sophomore outfielder Briana Valencia, sophomore infielder Tiffany Mercado and junior first baseman Allison Bayer, who hit her ninth home run of the season. Sophomore infielder Savana Ramirez went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
POLA, the two-time defending City Section Division III champion, advances to Tuesday's semifinal round against fourth-seeded Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences of Granada Hills.
