San Pedro High Boys Basketball Advances To Tourney Final

LOS ANGELES - The San Pedro High boys basketball team continues to make a lot of noise early as they routed Venice, 80-52 in a Belmont Zone Of Choice Tournament pool play game at Roybal Learning Center.

With the suffocating full-court pressure defense again paying dividends, the Pirates got a tremendous array of easy hoops and they even made 16 three-pointers. A strong performance from senior guard Austin Freitas, who scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Junior guard Zach Foster was also solid with a double-double effort of 14 points and ten rebounds for San Pedro, who improves to 4-0 on the season.

San Pedro has scored 277 points in three games of the Belmont Zone Of Choice Tournament and advance to the championship game at 4:00pm today against Impact High of Las Vegas at the Roybal Learning Center.

Senior guard Michael Garcia added 11 points and six rebounds for San Pedro, while junior guard Isaac Stell added 8 points and seven assists. Overall, San Pedro shared the ball well with 27 total assists, and took care of the ball as well only committing 12 turnovers.

Freitas, Foster, Stell, Garcia, senior guard Elijah Gaines, junior forward Quincy Thomas, junior guard James Fish combined to hit 16-of-28 shots from downtown for San Pedro.
