LOS ANGELES - Any thoughts about San Pedro High boys basketball being a contender now?
The Pirates would roll to a 107-60 victory over South East in a pool play game of the Belmont Zone Of Choice Winter Tournament at the Roybal Learning Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
Senior guards Michael Garcia, Elijah Gaines and Austin Freitas would combine for 65 points, outscoring the entire Jaguars team by their collective selves. Garcia had 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and Gaines had 21 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and six assists for San Pedro, who improves to 2-0 on the season.
Freitas had 20 points, junior swingman Zach Foster had nine points and six assists,junior guards Khalil David and Isaac Stell had seven points each and junior forward James Fish had five points, seven rebounds and five assists for San Pedro, which used a full-court trap to get steals that led to a lot of easy baskets, while also draining 17 three-point field goals.
San Pedro will next face Bravo Medical Magnet in another pool play game later today at Sotomayor High.
