HARBOR CITY - Once again, the San Pedro High boys volleyball team found themselves down to a Marine League nemesis after dropping the first set.
Unlike two prior showdowns, the Pirates didn't take long to counter-attack and take control.
San Pedro would impose their will on host Narbonne of Harbor City en route to a 20-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-11 in a crucial league encounter that kept them one game behind first-place Carson in the standings. Senior middle blocker Sean Zuvich led the way with 30 kills, five blocks, five aces and four digs for the Pirates, who fell behind two sets in the first match with Narbonne on March 22 at San Pedro High before rallying to a dramatic five-set victory.
This win also somehow redeemed the Pirates from a three-game sweep at Carson last week, setting up for a big time rematch next Thursday at San Pedro High where San Pedro can either forge a share of the league crown, or surrender the title outright to the Colts.
Junior outside hitter Jacob Branch had 11 kills and 12 digs, senior outside hitter Elijah Gaines had 10 kills, 12 digs and two blocks, and sophomore middle blocker Conor Healy tallied five kills and two blocks.
Next up for the Pirates is a Marine League battle at home against Gardena on Monday.
