The San Pedro High boys volleyball team defeated visiting Fremont of Los Angeles, 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 in the second round of the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division I playoffs.
In a match that wasn't relatively in doubt, the fifth-seeded Pirates (23-7-1) looked fresh and relaxed after a first round bye and not playing a match since sweeping Carson to get a share of the Marine League title back on April 25, while the Pathfinders (17-3) were coming off an impressive three-game sweep over Polytechnic of Sun Valley in the first round this past Thursday.
Junior outside hitter Jacob Branch had 12 kills, 10 digs and 3 aces to power San Pedro, while senior setter Austin Freitas had 34 assists, 2 aces, 7 digs and 2 kills. Senior defensive specialist Nico Mandac added six aces and 11 digs.
San Pedro advances to the quarterfinals to face fourth-seeded Carson on the road, Thursday at 7pm.
